Postby dundreamin » Sat Mar 16, 2013 11:45 am

It's only 4 and a bit hours to KO and nobody's started a thread yet. So here goes short and sweet. We are going to win this 3-1. Suarez 2. Gerrard

Southampton aren't mugs, they've played some decent stuff and at this stage of the season at home and not wanting to get sucked into the relegation dogfight it may not be the walk over for us that some are predicting.

On paper we should win it but football isn't played on paper.

It will be an interesting game as we have struggled when teams have pressed us aggressively in our own half and that is what Southampton have been trying to do under Pochettino. They have plenty of threat in their team and every time I have seen Ricky Lambert play he looks like a top 10 player who can hurt you in a number of different ways.

From our point of view I think we went too top heavy against Spurs and it showed. Only when Allen came on for Coutinho did we stop Dembele running the game. I’d like to see Allen or Henderson come in to play in front of Lucus and Gerrard but it’s difficult to drop any of the front 4 as they have been do so well but that’s what proactive managers do.

Southampton v Liverpool (1500 GMT)
BREAKING: Joe Allen and Martin Skrtel both start for Liverpool. No Jamie Carragher or Lucas in the starting XI, and goalkeeper Pepe Reina again misses out. Southampton news to follow when we get it.

It seems Rodgers wasn't bothered being too top heavy last week. Except he's doing it again with Allen and Gerrard. He's going to come unstuck with this, how has a shoulder injured Allen pipped either Lucas or Henderson in CM.

I certainly hope we win but that's risky that line-up, we're gonna make tough work of this I think.

That’s a bold selection. Looks like Reina and Carragher are injured and Lucus is being given a breather before Allen has his shoulder operation.

Exciting to 17 year old Jordon Ibe on the bench. Exactly 1 year younger than Sterling but taller, stronger and quicker and like Sterling, is a right footer who has played mainly on the left.

with Reina and Carragher both out  injured  i think its the best line up he could put out. Lucus looked worn out by the end of the last game, he is getting there.

No problem with the 10 outfield players picked, although a slight question mark over Allen.

My main concern is Jones. Sorry lads maybe BR has no choice but for me I have absolutely no confidence in Jones, we may as well put a traffic cone in between the sticks.

We all go on about strengthening the defence but maybe in the process we're overlooking our GK options that without Pepe are pretty thin.
