Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby Pig Catcher » Fri Sep 15, 2017 3:43 pm

We suffered running around after city for 50+ minutes on Saturday at and it showed in the final 30 mins against Sevilla. We’ll certainly need some “fresh legs” for this one.

                  Mignolet

Trent     Matip     Lovren     Robertson

                     Can
              Ox          Milner

Already we are at that point again of sink or swim.
A win and everything is back on track...
---
Drop Lovren even if it means sticking Milner at the back.

WE GO AGAIN!

I agree I'd also consider putting Can their instead of Lovren.

After 2 disappointing results we could do with a good win so I wouldn't rotate too much. This is the team I'd go with.

                                                       Ward

                  Gomez.               Matip.          Lovren.             Robinson

                                        Henderson.       Wijnaldum

                                                   Coutinho

                           Salah.                                        Ox-C

                                                   Firmino

This won't be a walk in the park Burnley have got the ability to pull out a result.
They beat Chelsea 3-2 and knicked a draw off spurs away 1-1.
Lost to West brom 1-0 and beat Palace recently 1-0.
They are a decently organised side so i will expect a tough encounter.

With our sloppy defense we surely will concede so its important we take a good lead.

Dyche is a smart manager, he will build a wall and hit our soft targets.

If Burnley survive the first 45 min onslaught its game on.

Not too sure what to expect. Suppose your could either see us simply sweeping them away with a 3-0 win or struggling to something like a 2-2 draw with more dodgy defending. Won't be easy against a well organised, gritty Burnley who've had more days rest than us but I think we will grab the win here

We could do with a 5-0 win to wipe out the memory of last Saturday. Judging by how the season has gone so far, this is what will happen :
1. We will come out blazing and create half a dozen chances, and squander the lot.
2. Burnley will have one shot on target first half and score from it.
3. Then we will get a penalty second half and score, 1-1.
4. Then Coutinho scores a 30 yarder in the top corner, 2-1.
5. Our defence looks shaky the whole game, and Burnley score two in second half injury time, 2-3.

That wouldn't surprise me!!
Seriously, Burnley will give us a tough game I'm sure. We need to take our chances that we create, we can win this game in the first 30 mins if we take our chances.

You're right we do need to start converting more of the chances that we are creating, we all know our defence isn't the best but killing games off when we get the opportunity would go a long way to helping. If Firmino would have scored that pen midweek i reckon Seville would have thrown the towel in mentally so we need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

Yup if Firmino had scored the peno we would've sealed the 3 points.

We do really need to be more clinical upfront and finish off games. We all know how poor our defense is and its something we can't rely on so i guess the pressure is on the lads uptop to kill off games.
I think the lads need some training practise on goal or something.
We've got great ability to create loads of goal bound chances which we just need to convert.

Usually when we score we have the tendency to go for another straight away. Many times when we score 2-3 goals its in the space of 5-10 mins.
Maybe its a tactic from Klopp to get right at them as soon as we score.

I was thinking the same thing after the Sevilla game, especially when we get Lallana back. Can is solid defensively, good in the air and strong and quick. If we were willing to play Lucas back there, surely we could play Can back there. He could probably be very good in our back line. My only concern would be his sometimes reckless tackles, but hopefully his awareness of playing CB instead of midfield would get him to bring it down a bit.

Early in his career he did used to play CB but then was shifted midfield. Yup Can could be reckless at times hence why Klopp would not use him as a CB. Im sure he can be converted into one but i doubt Can would want to play back.

Anyhow hoping today for a solid performance especially from Couts. Ox should be starting aswel so it will be interesting how he does.

Can probably could be converted into a CB but I think it would take time, he was pretty good in a 3 under Brendan although that said he didn't look that convincing playing in a 3 last week against City. Playing as a CB in a 2 though is a different kettle of fish altogether, don't get me wrong Emre has the size, strength and footballing ability to be a top CB but to paraphrase the late great BBC rugby commentator Bill McLaren the best defenders have the natural instincts of a little forest animal.
Top defenders sense danger and I think Lucas had a bit of that, I think that's why he made a passable CB, he wasn't a physical specimen like Emre but one thing Lucas did have was anticipation, when closing players down Lucas often arrived at an opponent at the same time as the ball, no one else in our team regularly does that.
For all his faults one thing Lucas could do is read a game.

Would like to see Ox start this one. He looked bright mid-week and deserves a start ahead of Henderson.
