Virgil Van Dijk unofficial thread

The Premiership - General Discussion

Interesting insight from twitter....

@GraemeKelly1: They can report mate, they gave us written permission to speak to him

Bit of foot stomping from both sides it seems.

Am I right in thinking the fella hasn't played for 5 months due to a ligament/foot injury ?

And Southampton want top money for a player that although apparently coveted by many doesn't actually have an MOT certificate

Just a thought    :lookaround

5 months seems a very long time for an ankle ligament injury, I've had countless so I'm not sure exactly what he did. Feeling now that maybe this thread is premature, it just seemed so certain when I posted it.

Official club statement

Liverpool Football Club would like to put on record our regret over recent media speculation regarding Southampton Football Club and player transfers between the two clubs.

We apologise to the owner, board of directors and fans of Southampton for any misunderstanding regarding Virgil van Dijk.

We respect Southampton's position and can confirm we have ended any interest in the player.

Got too excited and jumped the gun, feeling a little embarrassed. I really thought it was a done deal!

Ridiculous how everything turned out, amateurish would be an understatement. Our rivals are laughing at us  :veryangry

FSG are a joke and its about time fans woke up, they are clever at manipulating supporters but people should see through that, maybe this deal and summer will see fans turn on them in a big way.

Something has gone wrong somewhere. Perhaps his agent told us something he shouln't have....I still think we'll sign him. Probaby at the end of the summer

I'm guessing that his agent gave us the go-ahead to speak with him. Apparently there was "written permission" from Southampton, but that has turned out to be sh!te. It looks like today was the first time both clubs spoke direct and I think our public apology was part of the agreement that they don't report us.

The ball is in VVD's court now. If he puts in a transfer request and says he wants to leave for us, then perhaps it'll happen. I remember the Lallana deal dragging on for months.
