VVD will give us a potent aerial threat going forward...hopefully he can bring out the best in Lovren as I felt Lovren have under delivered thus far but still have lots to offer and something to prove to the many doubters. VVD + Lovren up front attacking a corner will give opposition quite a bit of headaches

Agree 100%, have high hopes for a Lovren/VVD partnership.   :buttrock

He 6ft 5", Matip 6ft 4", we have plenty of ariel threat on corners.

It's not just the height per se...it's how one attacks the ball with the header that often produces results. Loren will attack the ball full on, while Matip rarely does

Matip and VVD are the best match...Matip intelligence and ball handling/passing is superior to Lovern...VVD will be the intelligent enforcer and Matip can handle the play development from the back.

VVD+Matip for me. Lovren has his purple patches but he's way too mistake prone and prone to brain dead moments, something we need to filter out of our defence. With Robertson looking like he might replace Moreno, the GK position will be the only position left that would need improving with someone more calm and composed but also commanding, confident and dominant. I'm still hoping that Ward might be that person but it seems to be a little far fetched unfortunately.

I'm not sure who I'd pair him with at the back. Lovren is a liability, Matip has no pace, so probably Gomez.

How long will it take to give him the captains armband? He looks and behaves the way a captain should. Maybe not an upgrade from SG but a massive massive upgrade on the likes of Henderson and Milner. £75m is a lot of money but yesterday VVD showed why Klopp and Liverpool were so determined to get the deal done. Just maybe he ultimately join Hansen and Hyppia in the hall of fame !!

I agree 100% he is clearly captain material. This season let him settle and start getting to know hiw team mates.
As for next season Klopp should slap the band on his arm. It has been a while since we've had a warrior as a captain.

He has done more in one game to become captain than Henderson has in the years he's been here

I know it's quite soon in his lfc career, but he has the necessary skills to do the captains role.

Whatever about the loss tonight but I thought the best thing about us was Van Dijk. Reads the game very well and made plenty of clearances and interceptions. He is also a monster threat the other end. Can't fault him for the goal either as not only did he have to beat the Swansea players to it but also our own.
Great league debut from the big man  :nod
