Race for Champs league spot

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I think that really is the top 4 decided with chelsea losing today even though we have played a game more than the teams around us. Even if chelsea win their game in hand, they are still 7 pts behind us and looking at the fixtures I just can't see where they are going to make the points up. Our only real tough game is chelsea away and by then it will be done and dusted anyway. Even spurs only tough game is city at home and city may even have clinched the title by then and may well step off the gas somewhat. Really is going to take a major ***** up by ourselves or spurs and a unbeaten run by chelsea to change the current top 4

We could still get second place. If the scum get beat by city, and we beat Everton, the difference will be back to two points. Their boring, negative tactics under Maureen mean they could drop points still. The business end of the season, so stakes are high, no mistakes.

I guess the Chelsea lost meant we more certain about top4 but less certain about 3rd finish. I still want us to finish 3rd but spurs are looking very good...

With Matip and Gomez out we're spreading ourselves thin to fight for top 4 and manage these City games.

Chelsea's run in is a piece of p!ss on paper, I fully expect maximum points in their remaining games. I know we're 10 points clear (they have a game in hand) but I won't  be confident 'til we get another couple of wins.

We can afford to lose two of the last six games, and still be at least fourth.

If Chelsea win ALL 7 of their remaining games, they can only get a maximum of 77 points. So we need 12 points more points from a possible 18 to get 78 points and finish above them. Even another 11 points and finishing on 77 pts would do as our goal difference is so superior to Chelsea's

With us still having the likes of WBA, Bournemouth, Stoke and Brighton still to play, it would be a brave man to bet against us and would take a mother of all ***** ups for us to some how miss out on top 4.......simply not going to happen and furthermore I don't see Chelsea winning all of their remaining games, one of which is against us.

Top 4 is sealed for this season. In terms of league, it's between ourselves, Utd and spurs as to who finishes 2nd,3rd and 4th now.

I think it will all be done and dusted before we even go to Stamford Bridge to play them, as to whether we can afford to lose that game or not. Second to last game, we should have comfortably qualified for the top four, with plenty to spare.

I'm still optimistic that we could nick third place or even second, if the surrounding teams drop any further points etc.

I think by the time we face Chelsea, they will be thinking about summer and their next manager. I think making CL next year is a vertual certainty.

The scum beat City. Now we are 7 points behind them now. We will never catch them now.

It looks like it is between us and spurs for 3/4th spots.

Given City will want to beat Spurs  now works in pur favour, 3rd it is now.

If City do manage to beat Tottenham and we win our game we will be 3 points ahead. If they win their game in hand we will most likely be ahead on goal difference.

Top 4 was done and dusted last week. Conte and the players look like they've given up and I expect them to get a few more poor results in their remaining games. Think they will do well to reach 70 pts to be honest.

I would have loved finishing above United but our progression in CL and injury problems has probably put pay to that now.

3 or 4 not really fussed and qualification looks assured, tremendous work by Klopp really with the resources available.

What the last few weeks has shown is that if your fighting in CL and Prem we do need a better squad, if 2 of our front 3 got bad injuries we would really be toast. Maybe even 1 if it was the ridiculous Salah and the season hes having.

We are all but qualified, fantastic, but we must build on success year on year, upgrade and push on.
