Watched replays of Payets goal quite a few times and have to admit Karius positioning was poor and movement slow. He should have saved that.
The freekick did not have alot of power behind it.
There was a massive gap and payet picked the obvious choice.

Second goal after watching it again few times was a defensive clanger.
Matip did not read the ball at all.

2nd goal ,the original "sin" was of course Matip's but Karius reaction was just terrible...Really against basic goal keeping instincts.

The second goal was a bit unlucky, that header could have ballooned anywhere but it fell perfectly for West Ham. The first however was awful keeping, as redshade points out Karius's starting position was way too far to his left and he gave Payet a big target to aim for, even then Payet didn't manage to find the corner, Karius palmed it there making it look a better free kick than it actually was. When you look at it face on it should have been a routine save.
As I said yesterday this keeping farce needs sorting, all our rivals have keepers like Courtois, De Gea, Lloris and even Cech who continually pull their teams out of the s[hit] where as our keepers continually drop us right in it.
Over our last 2 games we scored an average of 2.5 goals per game yet came away with a paltry point out of a possible six. With our keeper/defence we need to score about 4 goals a game to secure the three points where as for teams like Chelsea one goal is often enough.

Think JK will stick with Karius. Get the feeling he can be quite stubborn and now he has backed him can't see him taking him out the team. Let's hope Loris can change things around...and quick. I'd take a scrappy 2-0 nil on Wednesday rather than say a 4-2 etc. Anything which keeps attension away from the lad. Needs a couple of games where he goes under the radar a little and the spotlight is taken off him

1st goal - it's the bend and the dip guys... it's the bend and the dip. It wasn't an easy ball to catch. If you look at it, his hand could horizontally reach the ball, but the dip made it quite difficult for him to catch. I blamed the goal on Karius on first look in the match thread. But upon reviews, it WAS a difficult ball to catch. The ball dipped and touched the ground right at the goal line. Beckham's freekicks were similar; it's the dip of the ball that often evades the keeper.

Look, I think I am one of the more objective posters on here. So you gotta believe me when I say it: it's the bend and the dip! 

Having said that I do think that Karius' goalkeeping qualities leave much to be desired. That's the reason I never thought of him as our savior keeper. He never impressed me that he's better than Mignolet when he first signed, only that he has more room for improvement due to his age.

I'll raise my hand up and say it; Mignolet was never as bad as some people made it. I've always said that once we have a settled team, Mignolet would start looking better as well. He may not be De Gea or Courtois but he's still a good goalie IMO. I said that there was no point in replacing him with someone who's going to be just as good as him AT BEST, and so far it looks like I was right. If we're going to replace Mignolet, it has to be with someone world class, not just with anyone.

For the time being however, I think it would be best to drop Karius and restore Mignolet as our number one goalie and give him a chance to prove himself in a more settled Liverpool than before. Karius might come good at some point, I'm not writing him off so soon, but I think it would be best for all parties, him included, if he's sat on the bench.

I can't see Klopp restoring Mignolet. Every manager is stubborn on something and Klopp will be stubborn on sticking with Karius. I just hope the lad gains some confidence and improves.

You say that because next to Karius Mignolet looks steady as a rock. They're both liabilities. I don't understand why we didn't go out and buy an established number 1 keeper - if there was one glaring weakness in the squad over the summer this was it and it's been poorly addressed.

Personally think Liverpool should have been Karius second club after leaving Germany, maybe a stint in the Prem with a side in the lower quarter to learn his trade here then on to a bigger outfit.

If he doesn't get back in and prove people wrong I can see that being an option on loan perhaps though I wouldn't send him overseas, needs to be here and in the Premiership.

I think the pressure is a bit too much for him at the moment and he is only young. A season in the bottom half of the Premiership would benefit him and allow him to adjust to the league without the media spotlight on every save he does or doesn't make.

A season in the lower leagues would do him well. Looks like another Klop howler but he may learn (unlike Mignolet) . I think he is probably good enough for The third flight.

If he's going to have any chance of showing the quality of his performances in the Bundesliga then the manager needs to give him a solid run in the side. I think I would  sooner have a young keeper that can improve and possibly do so 'significantly'  over time than one who has spurned countless opportunities to do exactly that and yet still shows no signs of learning from his mistakes.

I thought Karius looked pretty good in the cup games he was given. Perhaps another run in the team is on for him, given Mig's mistake.

Agreed, the lad stopped a veritable cricket score being run up against us when we played at Southampton
